Texting from my phone on the road to Chicago:
Clayton went out strong right with the kid he was trying to beat but the kid took off a little before the mile mark.
Clayton ran a heck of a strong race though and maintained his position finishing 13th in a time of 11:36 for 3K (a new PR by 10 seconds). Other guy ended up 3rd in a time of 11:09 which is outstanding as well.
Overall the team finished 3rd missing 2nd place by only 4 points and 1st place by only 7 points. If each of the top 5 kids would have beat just one more kid they would have had 1st.
We don’t always achieve what we set out to do but sometimes it’s not about that. Today it was all about embracing a challenge and having the courage to go for it and that is exactly what he did. I couldn’t be more proud.
